Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. Psalm 139:7-10
Where do you find God? It may be in the quiet of your morning or in the hug from a loved one. You may find Him in the sunlight of a beautiful day or when a strong breeze swirls around you. Scripture tells us that God is with us everywhere we go and in every moment of our lives. We can find him in our moments of joy and sorrow, health and illness, prosperity and poverty. He is in the midst of it all.
Psalm 119:114 says “You are my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Your word.” It’s amazing to imagine God surrounding us with his shield of love and protection. Sometimes we don’t realize how much we need Him, other times we may not realize just how strongly He is protecting us and other times we are acutely aware of our need for His presence. A wonderful thing happens when we read scripture and seek greater understanding of His word. In time, we become much more aware of His presence, we see His hand in the circumstances of our lives. Soon, we are able survey our experiences, both good and bad, and recognize the path that God led us on to bring us exactly where we needed to be.
Reflection:
Take a few minutes to close your eyes and imagine God’s presence as your hiding place. Pray to Him in this time and ask Him to give you a visual representation of what it is to find Him and to be in His protection. Talk to Him about times that you felt His presence and times that you wanted to feel Him but didn’t. Allow Him to take you on a visual journey that leads to a greater understanding of who He is and who you are in Him.
