Created to Create

"Then the LORD said to Moses, "Look, I have specifically chosen Bezalel...I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. He is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze. He is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft." -- Exodus 31:1-5

I've always felt in my spirit that creativity was part of being made in God's image. I didn't have any scripture to back it up. It was just something I felt was right. So, naturally, when I came across this passage in Exodus recently, I was elated to see that the Holy Spirit living in us can in fact give us all sorts of creative abilities. We can be a "master at every craft."

When I read this chapter in it's entirety, I saw that He gave Bezalel these gifts to accomplish a purpose; creating the temple of the LORD. Today, our bodies are God's temple. I imagine that the Spirit within us gives us all sorts of creative ways to honor Him with our bodies. Whatever your passion and your talent are, they are best used to glorify Him. Maybe you aren't gifted in setting stones, but you may be able to help people sculpt their bodies into something that honors God in a way that obesity doesn't. You may not be able to engrave metal, but perhaps you know your way around a kitchen and love making meals for people in need. Maybe you aren't a master at carpentry, but you can think of creative ways to solve problems between believers and can always talk a sister down from that emotional ledge she so often finds herself peering over.

You were created with a purpose, and that purpose is to create something beautiful in the body of believers and within your temple.

In what areas has God gifted you with creativity?
